Feedback sessions
For Thai massage students who need help with:
  • execution of complex Thai massage postures
  • transition between postures
  • flow variations, if you feel “stuck” and find yourself giving the same massage over and over
  • respecting time limits: shortening or lengthening your flow to fit a given time slot
  • specific postures for clients with particular (present or past) injuries and chronic pain, such as:
  •   » sciatica and/or piriformis syndrome (false sciatica)
      » knee injury
» relieving muscle pain related to elbow or shoulder tendinitis

  • Thai massage self-care
  • Injury prevention
  •   » Find out why certain postures cause you pain
» How to avoid injury by modifying, substituting and/or avoiding postures
» Feeling tired/drained after giving a massage, rather than relaxed & energized

  • Regular self-maintenance
  • » Yoga postures to improve your own stability and flexibility during stances
» Stuff you can do to yourself to prevent repetitive strain and alleviate recurring tension

A Feedback Session can be an hour or more, according to the student’s wishes. The cost is $60/hour, at my private studio.

    Supervised sessions
The final requirement for the Certificate of Thai Massage

    1) Give an hour & half Thai massage observed by the teacher
The student gives a complete Thai massage to a recipient, demonstrating their ability to choose the appropriate techniques. The student receives corrections during the session and written feedback afterwards.

    2) Give a one hour Thai massage to the teacher
The aim of this session is to ensure that the student can give a Thai massage of superior quality despite time constraints, choosing postures that suit not only the receiver but also him- or herself as the giver. The student receives corrections during the session and written feedback afterwards.

    3) Receive a one hour Thai massage from the teacher
Receiving from one’s master is a long-time Thai massage tradition: Experiencing the correct form is an essential part of the learning process.

Le cost for three sessions (4 hours total) is $180, at my private studio.

    Certification Program
Thai Massage 2: Adapting to individuals
    40 classrooom hours + 30 practice hours
    Level: Beginner
Prerequisite : Thai Yoga Massage 1

Once we have learned to give a skilled Thai massage, we begin to realize that there are two important factors to whether a posture “works”: The giver and the receiver. It’s important, therefore, to have more tools in your repertoire, because not all giver and not all receivers can do all postures.

Beginning with a complete review of all techniques taught in TYM1 (above), students will learn:

  • 90 additional minutes of massage techniques, including postures in the side-lying position
  • A more detailed exploration of the Sen lines
  • How to adapt the massage according to different receivers: common pains, and time constraints.
  • How to practice with compassion for one’s self, by substituting problematic or painful postures
  • Participants who complete this course will receive a letter of Attestation, and may proceed to Thai massage 3: Save your Hands & Self-care with a view to Certification.

Required material (not included): the same book as in Level 1 (above), “Thai Yoga Massage” by Kam Thye Chow.

    NEXT CLASS:
    28 Apr – 30 Jun 2012 (10x Saturdays 9am-1pm)

    LOCATION:
    Lavaltrie, J5T 3J7

    Certification Program
Thai Massage 3: Save Your Hands & Self-Care (40 hrs)
    40 classrooom hours + 20 practice hours
    Level: Beginner to advanced
Prerequisite: Intro to Thai Yoga Massage or higher (any school)

Your wrists, your hands, your thumbs: These are your tools. You’ve only got two of each, and they have to last you a lifetime, so it’s important to learn to spare your hands, and to have more tools in your toolbox.

In the massage profession we rarely, if ever, hear of someone suffering a major injury while working. What is very common, however, are injuries due to repetitive strain, poor technique or bad habits.

In this 6-day Thai massage workshop, suitable for intermediate to advanced practitioners, students will learn to increase and emphasize the use of feet, knees, elbows and forearms, instead of palming and thumbing.

This Thai Yoga Massage course will focus on:

  • 2 hours’ worth of Thai massage techniques with variations that reduce the use of hands
  • Learning to substitute postures that require palming & thumbing
  • Limiting the work of hands to mobilization, immobilization, and stabilization (not massaging!)
  • Developing sensitivity & learning to “feel” with your feet, knees, elbows, etc.
  • Controlled and gradual shifting of body weight
  • Increasing awareness of flaws in technique that can lead to injury
  • In addition, this Thai massage class features:

  • Fundamental principles for an effortless practice at any level
  •   » metta & meditation
      » proper body alignment
      » rhythmic rocking
» touch techniques using feet, knees, elbows & forearms

  • Self-care: Yoga postures, exercises based on martial arts, and Thai massage techniques for self-maintenance and injury prevention
  • Participants who complete this course will receive a letter of Attestation.

Students who complete all three courses in the Certification Program (above) all practice requirements and supervised sessions may apply for the Certificate of Thai Massage Practice.

Required material: the course manual will be provided ($15)
